To get back to nature, head to the Riverside Park Nature Reserve and its boardwalks and footpaths. Keep an eye out for wildflowers such as bluebells, honeysuckle and yellow flag iris along the riverbanks.

The tower of Guildford's Norman Castle still remains, with amazing views across the gardens surrounding it. The beds of tulips make springtime a particularly lovely time to visit.

If you want more history, step inside the 17th century Grade I listed townhouse which now houses Guildford House and Gallery and the tourist information centre. 

If your tastes are more modern, head to the imposing Guildford Cathedral on Stag Hill. One of England's youngest cathedrals, it follows an intriguing 1930s design.
