Halloween bouquet flowers to make your spine tingle

Halloween bouquet flowers to make your spine tingle

Want something more than carved-out pumpkin to welcome your guests? Halloween bouquet flowers can really help set the scene of your event. Or should that be boo-quets?!

From table centrepieces to entrance show-stoppers, flowers have a magic all of their own. Here we dust off the cobwebs of some fang-tastic interior design themes, to get your creative juices flowing:

Orange floral designs

All Hallows Eve, now known as Halloween, has always been associated with orange. Orange is the colour of fire, used to provide warmth and protection against the ghostly spirits at large. Given it began in the northern hemisphere and takes place on 31 October, people were glad of a candle or fire's cheery glow on this dark autumnal night.

We also have our American cousins to thank for hearth-lit tones. When Halloween celebrations began to rise in popularity in the late 1800s, people decorated with what was in season. They used pumpkins, chrysanthemums, hay bales and sprays of autumn leaves. These traditional colours still influence us in the 21st century.

A fiery explosion

For a bouquet that almost glows from within, our Love Street Bouquet is a tempting choice. It includes orange celosia, red dahlias and white freesias. And not a pumpkin in sight!

Gothic splendour in Halloween bouquet flowers

Are you a fan of the haunted house look? A classic rose bouquet adds both elegance and timelessness to this setting. It's also one of those rare times when ordering flowers weeks before you need them might work best. Drooping or wilting flowers add a hint of decay. Or you could even dry the flowers, for a desiccated look.

Did you know: the original Dracula book recommends placing wild roses on vampire coffins to prevent them rising up. At least they're more fragrant than garlic!

Rising through a swirl of ivy

Many of our bouquets include the classic red 'Naomi' roses, which have a velvet sumptuousness to them due to their profusion of petals. This bouquet adds ivy, evoking forgotten ruins, and deserted churchyards…

Drawing a veil over ghostly whites

If you prefer something paler, an all-white theme can be extremely effective for a Halloween get-together. White conjures up images of spectres and cobwebs. And of course the classic horror films Bride of Frankenstein and The Brides of Dracula.

Bone-white elegance

If you want the ultimate in pared-back sophistication, how about white 'Avalanche' roses? Their long, strong stems have very few thorns. Grouped together, they create real impact.

An extravagance of Day of the Dead flowers

Día de los Muertos is celebrated across Mexico and South America on 1 and 2 November. It is a celebration of love and joy for lost loved ones.

Increasingly, its bright colours, skull make-up effects and decorations are influencing Halloween decor.

A rainbow of petals

Flowers are a huge part of the Day of the Dead celebrations. Brightly coloured flowers of yellow, orange, red, purple, pink and white are thought to help the deceased find their way back home.

If you've chosen this theme for your Halloween event, we have the perfect bouquet! Our Sunflower Bouquet is full of joy, including carnations, veronica and orange asclepias:
