Flower delivery to Kingston-upon-Thames – plus tips for a regal day out
The town's Caribbean twin may be more famous. But delivering flowers to Kingston-upon-Thames when the sun shines is hard to beat. Whether you want a relaxing day by the river, shopping or to take in a show, there's lots to do in this vibrant town. Read on for our recommendations, plus ideas for bouquets to send to the Kingstonian in your life.
A day trip with a difference to Kingston-upon-Thames
Hop on a train from London's Waterloo station, and you can be in Kingston-upon-Thames in less than an hour. You can linger around its shopping centre, but we'd recommend wandering towards the river and its breathtaking views.
Way up river
Enjoy Kingston-upon-Thames in style by taking a river cruise. It's a great short-cut to neighbouring Richmond, or Hampton Court. You can take a peek at some stunning riverside properties, as well as the quirky islands that lie in the middle of the Thames.
Culture vultures this way
Are you a fan of visual media? Kingston-upon-Thames is packed with sculptures. Don't miss the iconic 'Out Of Order' sculpture of red phone boxes tipped on their sides like dominoes. It's at the entrance of Old London Road.
Local resident Edweard Muybridge – yes, that is the preferred spelling - had a huge influence on photography. A pioneering photographer in the USA, he created the forerunner of the moving picture projector. You can find out more at Kingston Museum.
For something more contemporary, check out the thought-provoking exhibitions being staged by the Kingston University's School of Art. As a university town, Kingston has some impressive celebrity graduates, including actor Ben Barnes, musician Eric Clapton and rugby player Lawrence Dallaglio.
Bridging the gap
The Thames this far west is a very different river to downstream in London. It's worth crossing the picturesque Grade II* listed Kingston Bridge to gaze down on the boats, paddleboarders and even swimmers.
Don't miss one of England's oldest intact bridges either. Built in the 12th century, Clattern Bridge spans the smaller Hoggsmill River which flows into the Thames. It's named after the clattering noise made by horses hooves. With a timber building close by, it creates a stand-out pic for Insta!
Find the flavour
There are lots of familiar High Street names in Kingston-upon-Thames, plus its iconic department store Bentall's. But if you're after street food, head to its ancient medieval marketplace. Surrounded by historic buildings, you can pick up everything from a vegan burger to a Mexican burrito!
Outdoor magic
Now you have lunch sorted, what about a riverside picnic in the serene Canbury Gardens overlooking the Thames? If you're feeling energetic, there are tennis courts and even a basketball court.
A crowning glory?
King Charles III may have been coronated in London. But in Saxon times, the King's Stone was supposedly used in the coronation of seven kings including Aethelred The Unready and Edward the Elder. You can find it next to the Guildhall, enclosed by hexagonal railings and stone pillars:
